Obituary

Anton (Tony) Lovink, born March 29, 1947, passed on from total kidney failure on August 21, 2024. He is grateful for the care over many years given by the Nephrology department at the Ottawa Hospital. He is lovingly remembered by his husband of 40 years, Alain Lanoix, his daughter Adrienne Lovink, her children, Vaughn and Chloe, his son Matthew Lovink and his two children, Penelope and Timo, his brother in Calgary, Gijs (Jon) Lovink and his wife Della and his children, his sister Marianne Goldsmith and her children. He is also grateful to his late parents, Antonius and Clara Lovink.

After graduating from Trent university, he spent three wonderful years in Bawku, Ghana, where he was baptized into the Christian faith. Upon his return to North America, he graduated with an MA in religion and education from Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University. After internships with national church offices in NYC, Tony returned to Canada to support his aging parents and to work for the International Development Research Center. Not made out to be a good administrator, he returned to teaching with the Ottawa Carleton District School Board, retiring from Glebe collegiate in 2006 to complete his PhD (sociology of religion). The power of his Christian faith, yoga and competitive swimming allowed him to achieve many life objectives.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 1 pm at St Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, 125 MacKay St, Ottawa.
